Is a Senior Reverse Mortgage Loan a Good Investment?
By Juhani Tontti
And it is the same case with the reverse mortgage loan. The difference is, that now the money goes another way, it goes from the bank to the borrower. Despite of this fact, the reverse mortgage is always also an investment.
1. The Home Value Will Increase.
The idea of the reverse mortgage is, that a part of the home equity will be turned into cash money and used as the daily money. The lender is not interested about the credit information nor the income of the senior, because the loan will be taken against the equity of the home.
However, a senior will stay as an owner of the home, he will just transfer a part of the equity into his own cash money. Some seniors will even use the lump sum into the home repair, which will keep or increase the home value. But one thing is a historical fact. The home prices will increase during a long period of time and this factor makes the reverse loan an investment.
2. The Investments Into Life Are Always Profitable.
Usually the term investment means an investment into some financial asset, which will hopefully increase its value over time. So it means, that you have to put money now and the profits come later. But is the health and a good standard of living also an investment? I would say, yes they are!
3. The Interest Rate Factor.
If the home price increase is one component in the investment formula, another important one is the interest rate factor. If a senior can forecast the interest rate development right and to pick between the fixed rate or the variable rate correctly, he will win a lot.
4. Take Only That Much As You Will Need.
The home equity is always a serious thing. Think, that you have paid the mortgage loan for several years and it is now your main asset. This means, that the purpose to which you are going to use the money must be a serious one too. So take only that much you urgently will need.
5. The Destination Of The Reverse Mortgage Can Be A Good Investment.
Some people will use the money for the increased medical bills, for instance. Some will use the money into their home repairs. But then there is one growing usage and that is to buy a home to a child. Now the money goes from another property into another one, but will stay on the same market and will save the investment nature.
As you can see from this short article, the reverse mortgage has features, which means that it will be an investment. This means, that a senior must be very careful with this product, so that he is able to pick the right terms. The only way to do this correctly is to visit the federal counselor.
